About the Murthy Lab

The Murthy Lab studies the molecular mechanisms that regulate adult stem cells and maintain tissue homeostasis. Our research focuses on understanding the states and fates of pulmonary and gastrointestinal cells, with particular emphasis on transcriptional regulation, cell plasticity, and stem cell niches.

We are interested in how stem and progenitor cells establish and maintain cell identity, how these processes are altered during disease, and how tumour cells adapt to changing environments. By understanding these mechanisms, our goal is to identify pathways that may support tissue regeneration and improved therapeutic strategies.

Our research uses a combination of experimental and computational approaches, including organoids, rodent and large-animal models, single-cell-based profiling, and bioinformatic modelling.
