Dr. Preetish Kadur Lakshminarasimha Murthy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago.
He received his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2013, followed by graduate training in Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2019. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training in Cell Biology at Duke University Medical Center in 2022. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate adult stem cells and maintain tissue homeostasis.
The Murthy Lab studies the states and fates of pulmonary and gastrointestinal cells, with particular interest in transcriptional regulation of adult stem cells, tumour cell plasticity, and stem cell niches. The lab uses experimental and computational approaches including organoids, rodent and large-animal models, single-cell-based profiling, and bioinformatic modelling to investigate mechanisms of tissue maintenance, disease progression, and potential therapeutic intervention.
